Introduction My two S.M.A.R.T goals are based on my strengths and weaknesses. I have chosen to make S.M.A.R.T. goals on time management and behavior management into my lesson plans. My intentions behind making S.M.A.R.T. goals for these two weaknesses is so that as I enter into Student Teaching, I want to work on these skills as I student teach and as I begin my first year teaching. My first goal is to improve my time management because during my 3 day unit this semester, I failed to utilize the full instructional time I had available. Though I was only done about 10 minutes early each day, this is valuable instructional time that could be used to read, review, or instruct my students. Over a year of teaching, this adds up to hours of missed instructional time which only hurts my students. Of course, increasing time of lesson segments seems reasonable, but I don’t want to belabor the point just to meet time. The purpose of making this goal is to help me focus on utilizing instructional time in meaningful and engaging ways. My second goal will be focused around behavior management. I have always been able to connect with students on a personal level and have always been able to create meaningful relationships, but I have always struggled with behavior management. As a substitute, I had behavior management problems and in my current practicum I have had a plethora of behavior management problems. The purpose of this goal is to continue to focus on my behavior management techniques and hold myself accountable for the behavior that happens in my classroom.
